Coastal Grandmother Crochet, Knitting, Sewing Patterns

Recently I stumbled across the Coastal Grandmother style trend which is all the rage. It took me by surprise as a new trend, since I had already been enjoying this style for years! Now it has an official name. 🙂 The Coastal Grandmother trend is all about neutral classics, billowy linens, natural fibers, and smart accessories (like bucket hats) for summers on the New England coast. It includes lots of creamy white colors, blue & white stripes, linens, baskets, …be still my heart. Since I live on the New England coast and adore all shades of white, it fits my particular lifestyle perfectly. The coastal grandma style is especially showcased in the movie Something’s Gotta Give with Diane Keaton. Her timeless style is the star of that movie, don’t you agree? Both her wardrobe and home feature a comfortable, minimalist aesthetic.

If you enjoy crochet, knitting, and sewing like I do, then you’ll find a way to fit this style into your pattern choices. This blog has the tagline “..with classic neutral style” to describe the types of patterns I offer. Perhaps now I should also add ‘Coastal Grandmother’ style since apparently that’s another name for it! Although personally I don’t love the ‘grandmother’ part of the name. That point in my life hasn’t happened yet, but perhaps I’ll be a grandmother in 10-15 years God willing. 🙂 To celebrate the trendy recognition of this style (that has actually been around for years), I’ve listed some crochet, knitting, and sewing patterns that exude the relaxed vibe of Coastal granny style. Take a look…

What is the coastal grandmother aesthetic?

First, let’s talk about fashion choices for this classic style. It represents a minimalist aesthetic, with casual beach style. You’ll want loose, cozy, tops and pants, especially in cream, white, and beige colors. Mix blue and white stripes into the look, and be sure to add texture with crochet and knitted pieces. This look is definitely more laid back than a colorful bold beach style.
