Crochet Wood Napkin Rings - napkin rings on striped napkins and alone

How to Make Crochet Wood Napkin Rings

I’m giving you a very simple gift today – a pattern for crochet napkin rings. It will probably take you 10 minutes to make one if you’re familiar with double crochet stitch. The pattern has a fun twist – you crochet the last row directly on a wood napkin ring!

Lately I’ve been drawn to macrame and natural woods. I spotted some wood teething rings on Etsy that were made with macrame yarn and thought they were lovely for babies. That inspired me to design wood napkin rings in a similar way. Imagine them wrapped around light-colored napkins for a Scandinavian or nautical feel. Natural woods and natural yarns evoke a Scandinavian aesthetic in my mind.

Simple napkin rings for a simple table setting.

Just slip a napkin through the wood circle, and the crochet piece rests on top. The crochet part can be made with or without a tassel at the bottom: your preference. You could also make the tassel in contrasting yarn. Go bold if you want to!

Fasten off.  Weave in the last end at back of the wood napkin ring.

Add Tassel to your Crochet Napkin Rings (optional)

Cut 4-5 strands of yarn that are 8” long each.  (Cut more if you would like a fuller tassel)

Fold each strand in half.

Starting with 1st strand, thread the 2 ends through the eye of a yarn needle.  Next thread the needle from the back of the crochet piece (at the bottom) through the front (See below), then pull ends through the loop.

After you have stitched up these simple napkin rings using the crochet pattern, it’s time to show them off! Slip them over cloth napkins for a simple summer table, such as the one I put together…

Crochet Wood Napkin Rings - table setting with napkin rings

My summer table consists of a handmade table runner with knitted edging as a base, topped with vintage white ironstone pieces.

The natural wood and stitching on the napkin rings fit in well with simple Scandinavian, Nautical, or Farmhouse style.

I paired the crochet napkin rings with blue & white striped fabric, along with blue & white china.

Complimentary fabrics for napkin rings

Prior to setting this table I simply cut 12″ squares of striped fabric and sewed simple seams up each side to make napkins. I didn’t bother to hem the sides, but left the edges raw with the simple seams.

Then I folded them to tuck inside the crochet wood napkin rings.

The textured napkin rings also pair well with my ticking striped linen towel.
