How to Make No Sew Lavender Sachets

Step 1 – Cut fabric for bags

The first thing you will do to create the lavender bags is to cut fabric for each individual bag.  Make sure your fabric has been washed and ironed.  I used my favorite TICKING FABRIC and some simple white linen. The softer and thinner your fabric is, the easier it will be to work with.

Cut an 8” diameter circle of fabric for one bag.  I like to cut my sachet bag circles using pinking shears.  This gives the raw edges a more interesting look.

It’s a great tip to use a small (8-9”) dessert plate to mark a circle on your fabric.  Just trace around the plate with a fabric pen.  (photo)

Step 2 – Add lavender

Next, place your fabric circle down with the wrong side facing up.  Scoop a bit of your LAVENDER BUDS directly onto the center of the circle.

How much dried lavender do you put in a sachet?

You may wonder how much lavender buds to add to the sachet.  I think ¼ cup is a perfect amount for this size sachet.  I would not put more than 1/3 cup, because it could get more difficult to close the sachet up.

Step 3 – Gather up lavender sachet

Gently pull up the edges of the fabric circle and gather toward the middle.  Try to gather the edges evenly, then use a small elastic band to close tightly.  Make sure to wrap the elastic band around several times to tighten and ensure that no lavender buds fall out.

Wrap a pretty ribbon, yarn, or twine around the elastic band to cover it up.  Another option is to add a sweet crochet loop at the neck of the bag.  See the instructions for that below…

Optional – Add a Crochet Loop to Lavender Bag

Rather than covering the elastic band with a ribbon, you could also choose to embellish the lavender bag with a crocheted chain of yarn.  Follow the steps below to make a crochet loop for the sachet.

Make a Crochet Chain

Using a scrap of coordinating cotton yarn, Chain 20 with a size J crochet hook, leaving a 4” tail.

The yarn I used (and my favorite cotton yarn) is Premier Home in the Cream color.  It is my ‘go-to’ neutral yarn for crochet and knitting projects!  You can find more of my FAVORITE SUPPLIES HERE.

Add Crochet Chain to Lavender Bag

Wrap your crochet chain snugly around the neck of the lavender bag (over the elastic band), then join with a Slip stitch to one of the chains.

Fasten off.

Use your 4” tail to join the beginning of the crochet chain to the neck of the bag to make a loop.

Tie the loose yarn ends together, then weave them in.

Now you have a loop to hang your lavender bag like so….
