Make These Leather Napkin Rings

Autumn is almost upon us and it’s such a lovely season in New England. I’m looking forward to the foliage, cooler temps, and seasonal recipes (apple pie anyone?). Fall is also inspiring me to bring leather into my designs lately. Recently I posted a Leather Fringe Necklace tutorial and today I’ve got easy instructions to make 6 leather napkin rings. They’ll be a hit at your next fall gathering!

Cut Leather Pieces

To make a set of 6 leather napkin rings, start by cutting your yard of leather strip into 6 pieces, 6″ long each:

You will also need to cut the Deerskin lace into 6 pieces that are 12″ long each:

Make holes in leather strips and thread lace

Next, make 2 side-by-side holes on each end of the leather strip using the LEATHER HOLE PUNCH. I used the 2.5 mm setting to make the small holes.

Thread one piece of the deerskin lace through the large eye of the yarn needle:

Thread this lace through the holes in one end of the leather strip as follows (from front to back and then back to front):

In a similar way, thread the needle through the other end of the leather strip (front to back, then back to front):

Pull taut and center the deerskin lace:

Tighten and finish napkin ring

At this point you can slide the napkin ring over your napkin and adjust the circumference for your ideal fit. Lastly, tie two knots with the deerskin lace to secure:

Fall Outdoor Table Setting

Now you’re ready to entertain with these autumnal napkin rings! I’ve set up an impromptu outdoor table setting here, but I think these napkin rings would also look festive during the Christmas and winter seasons.

Can you feel the chill in the air yet? I’ve set up my chunky knitted throw to keep warm.

This fall tablescape also features my aged terracotta pots and crochet coasters. I love incorporating handmade elements into a setting. They create a unique presentation!
