Kitchen Update – Banquette Plan

Well friends, we are coming into the final stages of our kitchen renovation these days and it has been quite a process. You may recall our initial plan for cabinet replacement and our new theme that I wrote about here. We are striving for a modern farmhouse and coffeehouse theme.

Here’s another peek at the elements we’re bringing in:

Kitchen Renovation Progress

And here is the progress so far…it’s so much more open!

Kitchen update - window wall

It’s starting to look a bit like the design board, don’t you think? Our Rustic Alder Kraftmaid cabinets in Chocolate Suede finish are exactly what we envisioned. They are now in place along with the upper white glass door cabinets, and the counter is awaiting installation.

Once the counter is installed, the wall treatment can go up on this back window wall. We will have shiplap boards put up there, and this decorative tile will be put behind the stove under the range hood:

For your reference, here’s how that back wall looked a few years ago (I don’t have too many recent pics). The cabinets were original to the house:

Banquette Plan

To the left of the stove, we have a good-sized seating area. This is how it looked pre-renovation with a table set up:

We decided to open up that wall with a doorway to the living room on the left. Our first reaction was – what took us so long to do that? It improves the traffic flow immensely.

Kitchen update - seating area

We’re also replacing the radiator with a baseboard heater to create a banquette seating area near the window. Banquettes are all the rage these days! They’re perfect for providing a small seating area in the kitchen that doesn’t take up too much space. I’m envisioning enjoying some morning tea there at the window – a cozy breakfast nook.

Here are some options we’re considering for seating and a round table for this corner space. We found all of these pieces on Wayfair:

This round table is unfinished, which will allow us to stain it ourselves. But if that’s too much on our busy plate, I may keep looking for a pre-stained option.

What do you think? I’d love to hear your thoughts and any suggestions. There have been so many decisions to make during this renovation, and it’s always easy to second-guess them. As long as we stick with our theme, I think we’ll be fine.

Pray for me to have patience!
