First Published: June 2026 | Skill Level: Intermediate | Technique: Lace Knit | Season: Year-Round
If you’ve been searching for a free knitting pattern for home decor that’s as stunning on the table as it is satisfying to make, you’ve just found your next favorite project. This free boho table runner knitting pattern uses a beautiful lacy stitch repeat worked in chunky cotton yarn to create an open, textured piece with gorgeous fringe. It looks like something you’d find in a high-end boutique, but you’re going to knit it yourself.

The combination of the lacy boho stitch pattern and the chunky natural cotton creates a rich, tactile texture that’s pure farmhouse-meets-bohemian magic. Drape it across a farmhouse dining table, a coffee table, or a sideboard. This knit table runner with fringe instantly elevates any space.
Why You’ll Love This Free Knit Table Runner Pattern
This isn’t just a home decor project, it’s a weekend knit you’ll be proud to display all year long. Here’s what makes this chunky knit table runner so special:
- Lacy boho texture without advanced lace knitting. The Boho stitch pattern uses simple yarn-overs and basic decreases, creating a beautiful open texture that looks far more intricate than it is.
- Chunky cotton yarn knits up fast. With super bulky weight yarn and size 15 needles, this runner works up quickly. You could finish in a weekend.
- Beautiful fringe finish. The long knotted fringe on both ends adds a macramé-inspired, bohemian feel that’s right on trend.
- Neutral and timeless. Knit in natural ecru cotton, this runner coordinates effortlessly with farmhouse, boho, cottage, and Scandinavian-inspired interiors.
- A flat, portable project. Working flat in rows means no circular needles, no joining, no fuss — just relaxing, rhythmic knitting.

Supplies & Materials Needed
To make this boho knit table runner, you’ll need the following:
Yarn
- Yarn Weight: Super Bulky (Size 6)
- Fiber: 100% cotton or cotton-blend
- Yardage: Approximately 160 yards total (includes fringe)
- Yarn used in sample: Lion Brand Mac-Re-Me (77 yds / 7 oz / 200g per skein) in color Natural Ecru
Yarn Substitution Tip: Look for a super bulky (size 6) cotton or cotton-blend yarn in a natural, neutral color. The cotton fiber is key — it gives the runner its structure, texture, and beautiful stitch definition after blocking.
Needles
- US Size 15 (10.0 mm) straight knitting needles
- You will also need a crochet hook for attaching the fringe

Finishing the Runner
Blocking
Block the finished piece to 12″ wide by 38″ long. Wet blocking is recommended for cotton yarn. It helps open up the lacy stitch pattern beautifully and gives the runner its finished drape and dimensions.
Adding the Fringe
Add fringe to one short edge of the runner as follows:
- Cut 27 strands of yarn, each 14″ long. (Tip: wrap yarn around a 7″ wide piece of cardboard 27 times, then cut along the bottom — much faster!)
- Fold each strand in half.
- Use a crochet hook to loop each folded strand through a stitch at the short edge of the runner.
- Trim fringe pieces to even them out to approximately 6″ length.
- Optionally, “comb” through the fringe strands with your fingers to separate the individual threads for a fuller, more macramé-inspired look.
Repeat on the second short edge of the runner.
Weave in all ends to the wrong side.
Tips to Customize Your Runner
One of the best things about this pattern is how easy it is to make it your own. Here are some fun ways to personalize your knit boho table runner:
Change the Length
The pattern works up in a simple 6-row repeat, which makes it easy to adjust the length. Just work more or fewer repeats — add or subtract rows in multiples of 6. If you add length, make sure you have enough yarn, and always end on a WS (wrong side) row.
Try a Different Color
The natural ecru colorway is timeless and works with virtually every interior palette. But this pattern is also stunning in:
- Warm greige or taupe for a modern organic feel
- Soft white or cream for a clean, Scandinavian-inspired look
- Dusty sage or warm terracotta for a boho seasonal refresh
Go Longer for a Sideboard or Console
Love the look for a sideboard runner or console table? Simply work additional 6-row pattern repeats until you reach your desired length. A longer version (50–60 inches) makes a dramatic statement on a console table or entryway piece.
Use a Linen or Cotton-Linen Blend
A linen or linen-cotton blend yarn in the same super bulky weight will give the runner even more structure and a slightly more natural, organic texture. That’s perfect if you love a raw, earthy aesthetic.

How to Style Your Boho Knit Table Runner

This is where the fun begins! Here are some of my favorite ways to style this textured knit runner:
Farmhouse dining table: Layer the runner down the center of a rustic wood dining table. Add a few white ceramic candle holders, a cluster of dried lavender tied with kraft paper, and a simple wooden bowl of seasonal fruit. The neutral ecru works beautifully against warm wood tones.
Coffee table: Fold the runner lengthwise and drape it across a coffee table. Stack a few art books on top, add a small tray with a candle and a dried flower arrangement, and let the fringe drape softly over each end.
Seasonal styling: Swap out what sits on top of the runner to give it a fresh look for each season. Think dried pampas grass and amber candles for fall, white ceramic pitchers with greenery for spring, and pine cones or a simple wreath for winter.
Entryway console: Run it along an entry console table with a simple mirror above, a few potted plants, and a ceramic dish for keys. The fringe makes it feel intentional and curated rather than “just a runner.”
Gift idea: A finished runner makes a beautiful, heartfelt housewarming or hostess gift, especially when tucked into a linen bag with a handwritten note.
