Easy Crochet Flower Pattern
How to make crochet flowers
Here I will walk you through each step of making an easy crochet flower. Use one solid color for the entire flower, or use a contrasting color for the center of the flower (the ‘bud’). It’s a great project for scrap yarn!
NOTE –
- The first Ch 1 in rounds 1 and 2 does not count as a st.
- Flower will be worked from the center bud outwards, increasing stitches per round.
- Gauge is not critical, as these flowers can be made to any size. (use larger yarn & hooks to make a large flower)
Small Crochet Flower Pattern
With size H-8 hook, chain 4 with size 4 yarn.
Join with a sl st to first ch to form a ring. (NOTE – alternatively, a Magic Ring can be used here).
NOTE – Feel free to put a stitch marker (SM) at the first st to mark the beginning of each round. You will be joining at the end of each round.
(RS is facing while working)
Round 1: Ch 1, work 6 sc into ring. Join with sl st to 1st st. (6 sts)
(If you are using two different colors for the bud and petals, join the new color with the sl st at the end of this Round 1).
Round 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each st around. Join with sl st to first st. (12 sts)
Round 3: *[sl st, ch 3, sl st] in next st, 3 dc in next st; rep from * around. Join with sl st to first st. (12 ‘petals’)
This will create the flat flower with 6 large ‘petals’ and 6 small ‘petals’ in between. The total number of petals is 12.
Fasten off.
Weave in loose ends to WS.
That is all there is to this easy crochet pattern – just 3 rounds to make a simple flower!
Important Tips for Crocheting your Small Flowers
Some things to keep in mind as you work the flower crochet pattern are:
- The Right Side (RS) of the flower faces you while working.
- Feel free to experiment with different combination of colors for the flowers. This project is a great way to use up scrap yarn in your stash!
- Use different sized yarn or hooks to vary the size of the flowers.
Finished Size
The finished flower measures approximately 2″ diameter.
Showcasing the Small Crochet Flowers
The miniature flowers make great crochet home decor. Just loop some yarn through the back of the flowers to make a garland, and hang it in your home for spring. Feel free to embellish your flowers with tiny beads or faux green leaves. Make them unique and interesting, using your favorite colors. I used pastel colored yarn, but these would really pop with bold and bright colored yarn.
You could also add a brooch pin to the back of the flower to create a perfect embellishment for a sweater, purse, or crochet hats. You can add the crochet flower applique to any garment!
Another idea would be to glue the flat crochet flowers to a craft dome to create a crochet flower bouquet.
These sweet little flowers would also look perfect tied to the top of a gift. The recipient will enjoy both the gift and the extra touch of this flower. Just slip twine or ribbon through the back of the flower before tying around the gift.
Add a pretty Spring Gift Tag (like ones from the collection below) and you’re all set!
