How to Crochet Coasters for Beginners {FREE Pattern}

When I first began this blog, I focused on home decor and related craft projects. Over time, those craft projects evolved into mainly yarn projects (with a few sewing crafts included). I love to crochet and knit, so now this blog reflects mainly those projects. But I never left my love of home decor behind. Rather, I just used it for inspiration on handmade crafts for the home. Easy crochet coasters are a super simple project to feed that home decor urge. I love the texture and functionality of crochet coasters, especially when made with thick cotton yarn. Today I have FREE crochet coaster pattern for you – a great project that you can make in a matter of MINUTES!

The coaster pattern has a round design, so you will continuously work stitches in the round to make the circle grow. Make 6-8 of these for the next time you entertain – perhaps an Easter dinner or summer banquet? The Boho crochet coasters will look gorgeous on your tablescape. If you enjoy beautiful crochet coaster patterns, this one may become a favorite & would also make a great gift.

How to Make a Coaster Crochet

The idea behind an easy crochet coaster pattern is to work in rounds with BASIC CROCHET STITCHES. Rather than working in the rows, you work in rounds from the center outward. This forms a circle to create the round coaster.

The following is a list of supplies you would need to create one crochet coaster. Feel free to use similar yarn (size 5, bulky yarn) and the same size crochet hook to make your own. This is a great way to use up scrap yarn. You can make cute crochet coasters in just 10 minutes each!

Beginner Coaster Crochet Pattern

How to crochet a coaster for beginners

It is very easy to crochet a coaster using basic stitches and simple techniques, making it a great beginner project.

Here I will walk you through the simple crochet pattern to make a textured cotton coaster. You will be mainly working with half double crochet stitches, then finishing with single crochet stitches.

Gauge: 4.5″ (11cm) diameter = 5 rounds (gauge is not critical).

NOTE –

  • The coaster will be worked from the inside out in continuous rounds, increasing stitches in each round.
  • It is helpful to use a stitch marker to keep track of the first st in each round.
  • The RS faces you as you work. You will not be turning your work.

Round 1: Work 6 hdc into the ring. Pull tail to close loop. Join with sl st to 1st st. (6 sts)

Round 2: Work 2 hdc in each st around. Join with sl st to first st. (12 sts)
