Harvest Basket – Free Crochet Basket Pattern
Fall is in the air here in New England and that means apple picking! I’ve got the cutest harvest basket crochet pattern for you. I had wanted a prettier way to display the autumn apples than just a glass bowl (or those unattractive bags they come in) and decided to crochet one. My crochet harvest basket is made from soft cotton clothesline and is super easy to whip up in no time.
You will find the FREE basket pattern below, along with various ideas on how to display your harvest basket. It fits in perfectly with rustic and farmhouse style. Next up…bake a yummy apple pie with your picked apples!

Harvest Basket Crochet Pattern
Crochet Abbreviations (US Crochet Terms)
ch – chain
sl st – slip stitch
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
sc2tog – single crochet 2 together (technique to decrease stitches)
tbl – through back loop (you will put the hook through the back loop of the stitch only)
NOTES
You will be crocheting the basket in the round, so it is a good idea to mark your first stitch in each round to keep track. I made my basket shallow, since I only had the 100 foot package of rope on hand. Feel free to repeat Round 4 several more times if you’d like your basket higher and you have more rope.
Crochet Basket Pattern Steps
Before making a slip knot, ensure the raw edge of the clothesline is taped to prevent fraying.
Using size S crochet hook, chain 6.
Sl st into first chain to join and form a circle.
Round 1: SC tbl in each st around. Sl st into first SC to join. (6 sts)
Round 2: (increasing) 2 SC in each SC around. Sl st into first SC to join. (12 sts)
Round 3: (increasing) [1 DC, Ch 1, 1 DC] in each SC around. Sl st into first DC to join. (36 sts)
Round 4: SC tbl around. Sl st into first SC to join. (36 sts)
Round 5: (decreasing) SC2TOG tbl around. Sl st into first SC to join. (18 sts)
Fasten off, tape raw edge of cotton line, weave in ends.
Display Harvest Crochet Basket
Once you’re finished with the harvest basket, it’s time to display it! Set it on your dining room table with an assortment of apples and a pretty table cloth or towel. A group of mini pumpkins would look perfect inside the basket, too.
The crochet rope basket would look lovely with some bright real or faux autumn leaves. (I shared about decorating with more of these faux leaves here).
I think the basket is also a piece of art all by itself, or perhaps use for a collection of wine corks! We have no trouble finding those around here. Ha!
However you decide to display it, the basket will add beautiful texture to your home for fall or any season. Plus you can brag about making it yourself. (No one needs to know how simple it was)!
