How to Make Farmhouse Crochet Dish Cloths

I’ve got great news – our farmhouse-style kitchen renovation is finished! We’re thrilled! I plan to take lots of photos and share the final reveal with you next week. (UPDATE – take a look at the kitchen reveal part 1 and kitchen reveal part 2!) In the meantime, I’ve got simple crochet patterns for you to make these cute farmhouse-style crochet dish cloths…

I stitched each of these dish cloths up in a matter of an hour or two, and I love the textured result. They’ll fit right in with our new kitchen. For the gray dish cloth, I simply repeated a Cable Rib stitch pattern throughout. I changed things up a bit with the cream dish cloth by alternating with Half Double Crochet rows in between the Cable Rib rows. You’ll find all the instructions below. Enjoy!

Crochet Dish Cloths – Patterns

Supplies

  • Approx. 100 yds of Medium Weight (4) Cotton yarn to make ONE dish cloth (I used PREMIER HOME COTTON IN COLOR CREAM, as well as the Gray color)
  • Crochet Hook, size H
  • scissors

Gray Dish Cloth Pattern

For the gray dish cloth, I simply repeated a Cable Rib stitch pattern which provides that textured look I love:

Steps

Chain 23 sts.

Row 1 (WS): 1 SC in 2nd ch from hook and in each chain to end. Turn. (you’ll have 22 sts)

Row 2: Ch 3, * skip next SC, 1 DC in next 3 SC, 1 DC in skipped st; rep from *, skip next st, end 1 DC in last st. Turn. (22 sts)

Row 3: Ch 1, 1 SC in first st and in each st to end. Turn. (22 sts)

Repeat rows 2 – 3 five more times for a total of 13 rows.

Do not turn after last row. SC 3 times in the corner stitch, and continue SC down the side of the dish cloth, across the bottom, and back up the top. Make sure to stitch 3 SC in each corner.

Next, SC around again (including 3 SC in each corner) to finish off the border.

Fasten off, weave in ends.

At this point my crochet dish cloth looked a little slanted, so I blocked it a little to get it more square.

Cream Dish Cloth Pattern

For the cream dish cloth, I alternated the Cable Rib rows with Half Double Crochet (HDC) rows:

Turn. (22 sts)

Row 4: Ch 2, 1 HDC in 2nd st and in each st to end. Turn. (22 sts)

Row 5: repeat Row 3.

Repeat rows 2 -5 two more times to bring you to 13 rows.

Repeat rows 2-3 only to bring you to a total of 15 rows.

Feel free to block this dish cloth as well, if it’s not ideally square.

Display the Crochet Dish Cloths

I love how these turned out for my new farmhouse style kitchen! We’ve got a bit more modern look in this kitchen these days, mixed with a coffee house style, so I love how these dish cloths add a soft touch.

Here the dish cloths are displayed on our new Silestone Statuario counter, next to the sink. Do you spy our new shiplap and tiled backsplash?
