Simple Crochet Coaster – Free Pattern
If you are a fan of using coasters to protect your lovely furniture from drinks, I’ve got an easy free crochet pattern for you to make your own coasters. Even if you don’t use coasters, these are too cute not to display under a vase or little plant. The pattern for the simple crochet coaster is a breeze, and it should take less than 30 minutes to make one. Have a try!

Approx. 15 yds of Medium Weight (4) Cotton yarn to make ONE coaster

Crochet Coaster Pattern
You will be crocheting the coaster in a round, which means you’ll join in a circle using a Slip Stitch (sl). I began the center of my circle tightly, by joining after only 2 stitches (sts).
Steps
Chain 2.
Round 1: 2 SC in 1st Ch. Join with sl st to 2nd Ch. (3 sts)
Round 2: 2 SC in each of the 3 sts. Join circle with sl st. (6 sts)
Round 3: 2 SC in each st. Join circle with sl st. (12 sts)
Your piece should look something like this:
Round 4: 2 DC in each st. Join circle with sl st. (24 sts)
Your piece will now look like this:
Round 5: 2 DC in each st. Join circle with sl st. (48 sts)
Round 6: SC around entire circle. Join with sl st. (48 sts).
Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Make as many as you like, and stack them up!

Coasters as Decor
Although these coasters are certainly practical for their original intent – to place under drinking glasses – they are also pretty for display.
Set them under a vase (like this DIY farmhouse vase), for example…
Or perhaps tuck them under a little plant pot. These particular greens are faux greenery, but I think they look lovely with the natural cream yarn:
Bring the coasters outside to your farmhouse-style patio, too! And wouldn’t they be sweet under a bar of soap in your kitchen or bath? Let me know how you use them, I’d love to hear!
