Set a Simple Spring Table for Brunch

Spring is here, Mother’s Day is coming up, and hopefully a pandemic is slowing down. I want to focus on HOPE for the month of May, and plan to spotlight that theme here on the blog. I hope that you can find a way to enjoy a small gathering with your family this month. Let’s explore ideas for setting a simple spring table for brunch. You don’t need too many pieces to create a lovely table setting, just one or two items that pop.

Perhaps like me, the only place you venture out to these days is the grocery store. While there, try to pick up an inexpensive group of flowers to use for a custom bouquet centerpiece. At home, grab a few glass vases & faux flowers you may already have on hand to create an alluring & cheerful spring tablescape.

Gather Supplies

First you’ll need to gather supplies for a minimalist spring table that pops. You’ll need:

  • faux vines or branches (see my post on faux greenery for ideas)
  • one tall glass vase and a few small glass jars. Small jam jars work well – vintage or new.
  • glass candle votives
  • 1 or 2 bunches of grocery store flowers. I used pink stock and baby’s breath.
  • white plates and vintage or new textured glasses

Create a Pretty Spring Tablescape

Place faux greenery

Your first step is to gather a greenery vine and a few branches. The greens can be a mix of faux and real, depending on where you can find them. Eucalyptus is my favorite and it smells wonderful if you use real stems!

Spread the vine out down the center of your table with a slight curve and layer in the branches.

Add flowers

Trim and place your flowers with varying lengths in a simple tall glass vase.

Next, trim baby’s breath to short stems and place in the small glass jars, along with glass candle votives. My textured vintage glassware on the table blends well with my newer vases.

Stack plates

For a simple brunch setting, it’s a good idea to stack classic white plates for buffet style. Add delicate petals and a charming tag for a Mother’s Day gathering.

Set up a sideboard

Lastly, plan to serve your brunch or lunch buffet on a nearby sideboard.

Plan for teacups and a simple white teapot or coffee carafe. It’s a smart idea to set a hot teapot on farmhouse style dish cloths.

Have table linens stacked in an appealing way. I’ve got my cloth napkins topped with handmade lavender sachets ready to gift for Mother’s Day.

The farmhouse style setting wouldn’t be complete without one last bit of seasonal charm – a pair of DIY faux topiaries. They set the stage for a spring atmosphere and uplifting setting.

I’m guessing we could all use a bit of cheer these days. Beholding a simple spring table in a modest gathering with loved ones may be just what we need, especially this Mother’s Day.
