Knit Wreath Ornament Free Pattern

The idea behind this knit wreath pattern is to work in straight rows, to create one long piece. The two short ends will be seamed together to create a circle. You will use BASIC KNIT STITCHES to create the wreath.

The following is a list of supplies you would need to create one knit Christmas wreath ornament. Use similar yarn (size 4, Medium weight yarn) and the same knitting needle size to make your own.

Supplies

  • Minimal yds of Size 4 yarn, such as
    • Lion Brand Wool Ease (color Fisherman), or
      Lion Brand Basic Stitch (color Almond)
  • size 6 (4.0 mm) needles, straight
  • craft pipe cleaner
  • embellishments, such as ribbons, beads, or bells (use hot glue to attach them to the finished wreath)

How to Knit a Wreath

Can a beginner knit a wreath?

Yes! Especially with a repetitive easy stitch pattern using basic knit stitches and simple techniques! This pattern has a Beginner skill level. The stockinette stitch pattern is simple to master and is very repetitive & so quick to work up. The seaming is also simple to work.

Here I will walk you through each step of this easy Knit Wreath Diy, using your favorite yarn color.

Finished Measurements:

  • Measurements are for finished wreath

Width : 2.5 inches

Length : 2.5 inches

Gauge: is not critical

FREE Knitting Wreath Ornament Pattern

NOTES – You will be knitting the wreath in rows, forming a circle. Finish by seaming short ends and adding a pipe cleaner & fun embellishments.

Follow the instructions below in the order indicated.

Stitch count will remain at 7 sts.

With size 6 (4mm) straight needles, CO 7 sts with size 4 yarn.

Row 1 (RS): K across. 7 sts

Row 2: P across. 7 sts

Rep Rows 1-2 until length measures approx 7″ or your desired inner circumference.

Bind off.

Finishing Knit Wreath

SEAM wreath as follows using an invisible seam (aka mattress/ladder seam):

  • Work an invisible horizontal seam to join two short ends of the wreath together to form a circle.

Weave in loose ends to WS.

ADD pipe cleaner as follows :

  • Cut a craft pipe cleaner to the same circumference as your wreath.
  • Tuck the pipe cleaner inside the curled edges of the WS of the wreath.
  • Bend the piece into a circle shape.

ADD a loop to hang the ornament as follows:

  • Thread yarn through a tapestry needle and weave it through the top of the ornament.
  • Tie the yarn to create a loop for hanging.

Important Tips for Knitting your Wreath Ornament

Some things to keep in mind as you work the wreath knit pattern are:

  • When working rows, RS faces on odd rows, WS faces on even rows.
  • Customize the circumference of the wreath by working as many rows as you wish.
