How to Make a Fall Leaf Garland

This week I finally got around to decorating for fall in our home. (I had been so busy putting together the CHRISTMAS CRAFT EBOOK for you!) While looking through my stash of fall decor items, I came across some faux fall stems. I decided to transform them into a fall leaf garland and it was a super quick project! The DIY faux fall leaf garland turned out just as I had envisioned. Love it when that happens. 🙂

I’ve listed the steps I took to make my DIY fall leaf garland below. Athough you could purchase a pre-made fall garland, they can be pretty pricey and it’s more fun to customize your own. If you already own some fall stems and just want to change things up, this is a way to transform them. The faux fall leaf stems tend to cost less per stem.

Supplies

variety of FAUX FALL LEAF STEMS (click on photos below to find ones similar to mine)
brown or GREEN FLORAL WIRE
sharp scissors or pruner (I used our garden pruner)

How to make a faux fall leaf garland

Gather faux leaf stems

The first step you need to take is to gather bunches of FAUX LEAF STEMS. These can be found easily at any craft store or online.

Cut faux leaf stems

If your stems come as a bouquet, you will want to separate them. Cut a few of the stems from the main ‘branch’ of the bunch using sharp scissors or garden pruners. Try to leave the center stem of the bouquet intact and just trim stems from the sides. You can see my main center stems in the middle below:

Attach fall faux leaf stems together

Using floral wire (or any wire you happen to have – I used jewelry wire I had on hand), layer and wrap two stems together:

I tried to alternate large fall faux leaf stems with the stems of smaller ones in my garland for a consistent pattern:

Continue joining the faux fall leaf stems in this manner to create your full garland.

Display your DIY Fall Leaf Garland

Once you are finished joining all of your fall leaf stems, gather up the garland and display wherever you want to showcase it – perhaps on a mantel, over a door, or across a farmhouse table.

Here I gathered my autumn leaf garland on our living room mantel, draping it in an asymmetric way.

Fall Fireplace Mantel Display

My fireplace mantel is now decked out for autumn! The fall garland from faux leaves is the main attraction, yet I was able to tuck in other seasonal elements as well…

Fall Kitchen Table Arrangement

Speaking of fall decor….I ended up using one last faux fall stem bouquet for a quick kitchen tabletop arrangement. Sometimes all you need is a simple display, especially when your table is as small as ours.

I tucked the faux fall stems in one of my DIY FARMHOUSE TWINE VASES and lit a WARM APPLE PIE VILLAGE CANDLE to cozy up for fall. It is my absolute favorite fall scent when I’m not actually baking an apple pie.
