Blocking Knit Purse Sides

Block both purse sides to 3” wide at top & 7″ wide at bottom, by 6″ length.

For cotton yarn, you can block by lightly wetting the yarn (you can spray with water) and pinning to blocking mat or towel.

Weave in any loose ends to WS.

Seaming/Finishing Knit Purse

SEW sides to purse clasp:

Use coordinating sewing thread or embroidery thread and a sewing/embroidery needle to join the tops of the two purse sides to the channel of the clasp.

Ensure tops of purse sides are tucked into each side of the clasp neatly, RS facing out.

After sewing, weave in loose thread inside of the coin purse.

SEAM two purse pieces together as follows (or your preferred way to seam):

(note – it’s a good idea to pin the pieces together prior to seaming)

Use purse yarn and a crochet hook (about 4.25mm) to join the sides and bottoms of the purse pieces together with single crochet stitches.

  • Begin by joining yarn at one top side of purse, where clasp joins.
  • Work single crochet stitches through row edges of both purse pieces on that side, across purse bottom, and up second purse side.
  • Work 3 single crochet stitches into each corner as you work around purse.
  • Weave in all loose ends on the WS (inside) of the purse.

Important Tips for Knitting your Coin Purse

Some things to keep in mind as you work the knit purse pattern are:

  • Feel free to use stitch markers if you want to ensure correct row stitch count.
  • Be sure to block the 2 pieces prior to seaming.
  • Customize:
    • Make in any color yarn you wish – it doesn’t have to be pretty in ‘pink’!
    • Use any purse clasp you wish, as long as the width is approx. 3 inches and the height is approx. 1-2″.
