What is the best yarn for a mesh crochet vest?

Super Bulky chenille yarn is the best choice to create the large stitches and allow a soft drape.

Instructions to make the mesh lace crochet vest are as follows…

  • Stitches are not counted for mesh lace pattern rows.
  • Ch 1 does not count as a st.

BLOCKING

Weave in all loose ends.

Block each panel to approx. 17 (19, 20) ” width by 19 (21, 23)” length.

SEAMING

SEAMING:

Join the top two corners of the panels together to form shoulder seams.

Make the neckline as wide as you wish. For reference, I made my neckline 13” wide for a boatneck fashion.

Next, seam together the two sides at the waistline rows only.

This will create two large armhole openings, as well as slits at the bottom sides of the vest.

Embellishment Ideas:

You can optionally add fringe to the bottom edges of your vest. Learn HOW TO ADD FRINGE HERE.

belt around the waist would look great, and can accentuate the shaping of the garment.

Important Tips for Crocheting your Crochet Vest

Some things to keep in mind as you crochet the top are:

  • Note that the stitch pattern is reversible, so you can choose which side to be your RS.
  • It may help to use a stitch marker (sm) to keep track of the 3rd ch in initial ch 5 of Row 3 in mesh pattern.
  • For best results, use a soft super bulky yarn, such as chenille or faux fur, to achieve the ideal drape. Avoid washing the vest, due to potential shedding.
  • Make sure to block each panel prior to seaming.
  • Feel free to customize the vest as follows:
    • adjust the shoulder seams to the neck width you prefer
    • add more rows at bottom if you’d like a longer length
    • tighten the seams at the waistline for a closer fit
    • add optional fringe to bottom rows for Boho style
