6 Ideas to Add Cozy Winter Decor

Now that January is upon us, it’s time to look at cozy winter decor ideas for our homes. It’s always a sad day around here when I remove all the Christmas decor and the house looks a bit bare. I miss the smell of the balsam tree and all the greenery. But I can take advantage of winter decor favorites, creating a light and cozy home to beat the dark & dreary outdoors.

Blankets

Cozy winter decor wouldn’t be complete without some cozy blankets and throws strewn about. My favorite are handmade throws, such as this small knitted lap throw I made.

My husband also gifted me with this comfy chenille blanket for Christmas (first photo below). It’s become a new favorite! I found a few other cozy ones on Amazon, too. Just click on the photos to take a look…

Soft Winter Pillows

While watching a winter evening movie, there’s no place better to rest your head than a cozy pillow. It simply must be soft, preferably yarn-textured, and big. No thank you to leather or cool fabrics this season!

Candles and Candle Holders

The soothing sight (and sometimes scent) of a winter-themed candle adds a bit of cheer on those days when the sun doesn’t seem to peek out or show up at all. I love white candles with subtle scents, along with Scandinavian style candle holders.

Birch Accessories

I’ve got a few birch logs in a basket near the fireplace, as well as a trio of birch candle holders on the mantel. The rustic white texture of birch reminds me of a winter hike in the woods…

Storage Baskets

If you’re going to have lots of winter throws and pillows around, you need someplace to store them, such as big, textured baskets. I think a combination of neutral-colored and natural baskets are fitting for this time of year. You can stash your knitting projects in them, too!

Mugs!

Lastly, winter wouldn’t feel cozy without a hot mug in your hands. Here are some perfect mug styles for this season, keeping in mind our neutral theme…
