Crochet Boot Cuffs Pattern
Here we are in September and the days are getting a little chillier. It was 38 degrees this morning when I walked our dog! It is too early to turn the heat on in our house, so warm sweaters and long pants are a must for those early mornings. Another way I try to stay warm on cool fall days is by layering crochet boot cuffs over my jeans. Boot cuffs are perfect for autumn because they give that extra layer that is just enough to keep legs toasty, but not too hot. It’s not quite time to bring out the down winter coats, thankfully, but an attractive chunky boot cuff keeps us warm until then.
Earlier this summer I purchased a gorgeous skein of chunky cream yarn that I put aside for easy boot cuffs this fall. I envisioned creating a boot cuff pattern that was ribbed, chunky, and had a cute button embellishment. Over this past weekend I was able to come up with the pattern and I love it! I am hoping you enjoy this chunky crochet boot cuff pattern as much as I do.

How to Make Easy Crochet Boot Cuffs
If you know how to crochet the DC (double crochet) and HDC (half double crochet) stitches, then you will have no trouble making these simple boot cuffs. You get to choose the circumference of the cuff by simply adding or subtracting rows from my pattern for the best fit. The cuff will be crocheted in one rectangular piece, then joined at the short ends. Lastly, I added a sweet tab with a button hole to secure onto a wood button.

- Approx. 70 yds of Super Bulky(6) yarn to make a pair of crochet boot cuffs. I used Big Twist yarn in the color Almond, but Lion Brand has similar CHUNKY YARN IN THE COLOR FISHERMAN

- scissors, yarn needle
Crochet Abbreviations

How do you crochet a simple boot cuff?
The steps for the chunky crochet boot cuff pattern are as follows:
Step 1 – crochet boot cuff rectangular piece
Chain 15 sts.
Row 1 (RS) : DC in 4th ch from hook (3 skipped ch count as 1st DC), DC in each ch across . Turn. (13 sts)
Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as 1st HDC), HDC in each dc across. Turn.
Row 3: Ch 3 (counts as 1st DC), DC in BLO of each HDC across. Turn.
Rows 4-13: Rep rows 2-3 five times.
Row 14: Rep row 2.
At this point your cuff may measure approximately 10.5″ long, which is a size Small boot cuff. It may seem tight, but the yarn will stretch when you put it over your leg. Feel free to repeat rows 2-3 another time after row 13 if you would like it wider around the leg. Finish with a repeat of row 2 (HDC row).
Step 2 – join short ends of cuff
With Right Sides together, join the short ends of the rectangle piece together using a slip stitch.
Turn Right Side out.
Step 3 – add button tab and button
Next, add a tab for your button as follows:
Row 1: SC on the top of your cuff for 3 sts. Turn.
Rows 2-6: Ch 1. SC 2 sts. Turn.
Button hole: Ch 4, skip st, sl st to last st.
Fasten off.
Weave in ends.
Fold the button tab down, then sew a button where the button hole meets the cuff.
Make sure to choose a button that coordinates well with your boot cuffs. I love how this wood button contrasts with the creamy ivory yarn.
Secure the button hole around the button and you are finished! These easy crochet boot cuffs should probably take you under 1 hour for the pair.
How to Wear Boot Cuffs
What do you think? Would you wear these through fall and winter? I’m looking forward to warmer walks with the dog with these boot cuffs keeping my legs cozy.
To wear your boot cuffs, simply pull them over your legs up below the knee, then tuck the bottom 1-2″ of the cuffs inside your tall boot. Since these are chunky boot cuffs, make sure you are wearing slim pants/jeans and the boot top isn’t too tight.
Buttoned Boot Cuffs
Make sure the buttons are facing outward – you want to show off how cute they are!
These crochet boot cuffs would also look nice tucked inside ankle boots or Doc Martens. Wouldn’t they look awesome paired with faded jeans and an oversized cream sweater? Or maybe black leggings and a long slim T-shirt. Sigh…
If you knit, I also have a KNITTED PATTERN FOR BOOT CUFFS in a pretty Parisian gray color. They are made with a softer, thinner yarn, but are just as cozy.
Now is the time to get those crochet hooks and knitting needles out for cold weather projects. I hope you give these chunky boot cuffs a try. I promise they are so simple to make and worth every minute.
