Reflections on First 3 Months of Blogging

I had planned to talk about crafts throughout each of my posts in March in order to celebrate “National Crafts Month”.  After all, it’s such a great thing to celebrate for us DIY and craft-lovers, right?  The very last post planned for this month will highlight a craft the family can do together (coming soon), but I didn’t want the month to end without a more thoughtful post.

In my enthusiasm to get out crafty/DIY posts, I didn’t want to neglect that sense of ‘peace’ that this blog was meant to convey and that I am personally striving for. Understandably, this blog will go through seasonal changes, where I spend more time on some topics than others.  But I do want to make sure that I stay true to those categories I’ve listed above in my menus, which include Faith and Family.   The ability to balance family life with this blog will be critical to its success.

First 3 Months

This brings me to a point where I’d like to reflect on my first 3 months of blogging.  It’s been wonderful!  I’ve found that my mind is brimming with ideas for posts faster than I can keep up with them.  I’ve got a notebook where I jot down all these ideas as well as a 2019 planner where I’ve been scheduling all the ‘to-do’ tasks that are necessary to run a blog.  There’s a lot more to it than I could have imagined, and yet it’s been fascinating and fun.  I read recently on Sarah Joy’s blog that blogging is a marathon, not a sprint (along with other wonderful tips she gives).  Such true words!  I’m in this for the long haul, so I’ve got to remember to pace myself and enjoy the ‘run’.

This reminds me of a wonderful quote from G.K. Chesterton (one of the wisest writers ever):

We can thank God for beer and burgundy by not drinking too much of them.

Such words of wisdom about moderation.  Everything should be enjoyed in moderation.  That includes blogging, social media, TV shows, food, drink, and yes – DIY/crafts (!).  My aim is to always focus on what’s truly important in life and have a healthy sense of detachment to these hobbies that I can walk away from them when it really matters.

Thank YOU for visiting

In addition, I always want to remember that there are distinct, beautiful, unique human beings behind every ‘follow’, ‘like’, comment, and email subscriber of my blog/Instagram/Pinterest platforms.  Although I want to give much effort into providing fun projects for you here at A Box of Twine, I don’t want to neglect getting to know you.

This blog may be my happy place for inspiration and creativity, but I don’t want to spend time here alone.  Let me know what you’d love to see here and give me a nudge when I need more moderation on certain post categories.

I appreciate each one of you!
