Easy Crochet Hearts
The idea behind a small crochet heart pattern is to create a simple heart using BASIC CROCHET STITCHES, working from the bottom up. You begin by working a triangle for the bottom of the heart, increasing stitches over the rows. Next, you work the wider top to form the heart shape. Once finished, the crochet heart can be embellished with a ribbon or attached to a heart garland.
The following is a list of supplies you would need to create small hearts. Feel free to use similar yarn (size 4, worsted weight yarn) and similar size crochet hook to make your own. This is a great way to use up leftover yarn in your yarn stash. You can make several of these crochet hearts in no time at all!

- Size F (3.75 mm) hook size
- Size 4 Medium yarn weight – 145 (185) yds
- I used cotton yarn: Premier Home Cotton in colors Cream and Gray
- scissors
- tapestry needle (aka yarn needle)

Finished Size
The finished heart with worsted weight yarn measures approximately 2″ height by 2” width at the widest point. Feel free to use different sizes for hooks and yarn to make smaller hearts or larger hearts.
That’s all there is to it! Now you can simply string some pretty ribbon or twine through openings in the heart. For instance, here are a 5 different ways to use easy crochet hearts made with this lovely pattern:
Decorate Love Sacks for Valentine’s Day:
When my children were younger, we had a tradition of writing love notes to each other leading up to Valentine’s Day. The notes were put into these LOVE SACKS which were opened on the holiday. We all took such delight in opening and reading the notes. The sacks make meaningful Valentine’s Day gifts, especially when embellished with these mini crochet hearts.
Crochet Heart Garland:
String the mini hearts together to create a heart garland for your mantel or wall. Feel free to alternate the sweet little crochet hearts with different colors.
The beautiful crochet hearts can add much-needed texture to your decorating.
If you would like larger hearts, try making the hearts with bulkier yarn and a larger hook size, such as in THIS HEART GARLAND crochet project.
Each large crochet heart made with pink Super Bulky yarn is gathered together using cream string. Some of the love hearts are also embellished with mini labels.
Tags for Gifts:
The simple hearts can be used to adorn a gift – especially one that is made with love. Use one beautiful crochet heart as a tag, or two for more impact. The hearts are the perfect size for a small token of love.
Pin Holder:
Use a crochet heart to temporarily hold sewing pins while you work. It may be just the quick go-to pin holder you need, as it is both functional and lovely!
Hanging Ornaments:
Hand the tiny hearts on a cabinet doorknob or on a bulletin board for decoration. They’ll remind you of all things ‘lovely’.
I think it would also be a good idea to seam together two of these crochet hearts with stuffing inside to make one puffy heart mini pillow. I can imagine a stuffed heart made with soft chenille yarn and large crochet hooks. Have fun with the possibilities of this free crochet heart pattern!
