Chunky knit lap throw on settee

Make this Cozy Chunky Knit Throw!

This is the time, friends.  It is cold outside, it is dark outside (too early), and your pile of books to read is a mile high.  It is time to slow down, pour the coffee or tea, and kick your legs up with a cozy and chunky knit throw.  You earned this time.  You scurried and baked and scurried and wrapped and celebrated for Christmas.  It was all wonderful, but now you get to sit back and ponder, dream, rest….

Along with those appealing books, what better item to have on your lap than a comfy knit throw blanket?  A while back I knitted this super easy lap throw just for that purpose.  It’s not terribly huge because I was short on the time and budget it would take to knit a big blanket.  Nevertheless, the throw is just right to add some warmth to my lap when I’m sitting at our settee by the window and overseeing our home academy.

How to Make a Chunky Knit Blanket

Easy Cozy Chunky Lap Throw pattern:

Cast on 16 stitches with the size 50 knitting needles.

Row 1: Knit 4, Purl 4, Knit 4, Purl 4.

Repeat Row 1 for a total of 54 rows.

Bind off.

You will need to join your yarn if you use more than one skein.   I used the Sliding knot to do this, which I think is not too obvious. However, since this yarn is so thick it may be best to carefully sew the ends of each skein together. That will yield the least conspicuous way to join the yarns.

Feel free to block the chunky knit throw if you’d like, since the edges may curl a bit.

Get cozy in the Chunky Knit Throw

Next…get cozy! This chunky knit blanket is just what you need to keep your lap or legs warm.

You could also use it as a swaddling blanket for a baby. It’s a quick gift for a baby shower and would be cherished by new parents.

The knit blanket also looks so pretty simply resting over a side chair. Just don’t let your dog or cat get too comfortable with it!
