Tour of Past Christmas Decor
As you plan to deck your halls for Christmas, do you look back at what you’ve done in previous years? Or do you start with a blank slate? I tend to do a little of both: recall what I’ve done for past Christmas decor, and add new ideas going forward.
Since I’m dedicating this month to a Handmade Christmas theme, I thought I’d share a tour of my past Christmas decor. I had several handmade ideas back in 2016, so I’m sharing photos of them today. Think of it as a visit from the Ghost of Christmas Past (decor)….
Christmas Dining Table
For Christmas of 2016, we had just sold our large dining table and hadn’t found the perfect farmhouse table yet. Therefore, we placed this vintage kitchen table in the dining room in the meantime.
We placed a small live tree, wrapped in my handmade chunky knit throw (find pattern here), near the window. I hung a fabulous large wreath I scored at the thrift store.
One of my favorite touches to this dining room was the adornment of each chair. I combined a bit of upholstery ribbon with a craft store wood reindeer ornament, adding a dollar store plaid bow on top. I simply strung them together and attached to the back of each dining chair:
Christmas Dining Buffet
Our dining room buffet was festooned with greenery, a chalkboard, and Christmas ornaments.
I love to add vintage pieces, so this vintage wood caddy was the perfect place to hold trinkets.
This chalkboard was decked out with a festive message and a handmade pom-pom wreath. I used cream textured yarn to make the pom-poms, and glued them to a wreath form.
At some point I had also copied an image of a reindeer on the chalkboard. Not perfect, but it was fun to draw!
Christmas Dining Hutch
This white hutch used to be in the corner of our dining room in 2016, but has since moved to the living room. I enjoyed adding white and cream textures to the shelves. I had hand-stenciled the wood sign (with glitter stars glued on), and also hand-knitted a cozy for the vase:
Christmas Living Room Mantel
Over in the living room, I decorated the fireplace mantel with spray-painted pine cones and another handmade pom-pom piece: a garland of textured yarn:
I placed a few more white-themed trinkets on top:
These old photos remind me of what I already own for Christmas decor, giving me new ideas for everything. Reuse and recycle is a great mantra!
What about you? Have you started planning and dreaming of a white Christmas?
